Doug Currie. Let’s hope this is the year the PEI Government actually moves to bring Legislated Midwifery to PEI. Our most informed advisors have suggested that PEI adopt a North West Territories style of legislation that would allow a Midwife from any legislated province to practice here. This would allow women on PEI to have immediate access to Midwifery. In time Midwives could be hired to work in existing Health Clinics on PEI and deliver babies in Hospital, Birthing Centers or Homes. When Midwives become part of the Health Care System Doulas can be hired as attendants and to work as part of a Midwifery Team.
