“In an effort to move to more a interdisciplinary model of care, and decrease the reliance on Obstetricians for routine obstetric care, the province should consider the integration of Midwives into the delivery care model, as has occurred in virtually every other province.”
Physician Human Resource Report, prepared for Department of Health and Wellness PEI, August 26 2010, prepared by the Hay Group Health Care Consulting

B.O.R.N has been lobbying the Government of PEI to Regulate and Fund Midwifery on PEI. Further to that the Canadian Association of Midwives has recommended that PEI adopt NWT style legislation that would recognize Midwives from provinces already regulated and open the door to allowing Midwives to practice on PEI.

While Doulas are not practicing medicine and do not require regulation where Midwives are regulated and funded Doulas are often attached to Midwifery practices and are included in multi-disciplinary maternity care teams attached to clinics, hospitals and private practice.
