Congratulations Carolyn Bertram on your new appointment as Health Minister. You seen to me like a very good decision maker and advocate.I am very hopeful there will be some positive advancements in the area of birth options on PEI.
I have a background in health.I have a Degree in Nursing.I worked as a nurse at the QEH.So I am well aware of many issues in health care. One main issue I became well acquainted with over the last seven years is the need for change in the area of prenatal, birthing and postnatal care available to the people of PEI.
Unfortunately my interest in this area was prompted as a result of a very difficult birthing experience in 2003.Since that time I have beenn searching desperately for info re:birth trauma on the child, and the parents.
I was not even aware of the issue as a health professional, but I am well aware of it now and will do anything I can to prevent this sort of issue for others. The best I can do right now is to talk about these issues.
The attached video speaks of the issues of birth trauma on the child and its possible long term consequences. One thing I can see is that much trauma happens unknowingly at the hands of trained professionals who simply do not know about trauma.
I feel having midwifery as an option for people on PEI would greatly reduce much of the trauma that occurs and therefore have healthier outcomes for child and parent.
Please give this careful consideration as the healthy lives of many depend upon these decisions. Please feel free to contact me should you wish to discuss this matter. Sincerely Charlene http://www.consciousmedianetwork.com/members/rscaer.htm
