NSDA will be hosting Barb Stegemann, local author and motivational speaker, for an afternoon of networking and introduction to her recent book, The 7 Virtues of a Philosopher Queen: A woman’s guide to living and leading in an illogical world.

THE NOVA SCOTIA DOULA ASSOCIATION
The Nova Scotia Doula Association (NSDA) is a membership organization devoted to the development of the doula profession and to supporting its members. By providing educational, emotional and physical support for doulas the NSDA will work to improve the quality of labour support offered to women and their families in Nova Scotia. All proceeds from this event will go to benefit the NSDA. This year’s goal is to start an education fund that will be used to help members achieve continuing education credits, often not available locally.

Island Baby Fair in Charlottetown

The Pregnancy, Birth and Infancy Network

is hosting their 3rd Annual Island Baby Fair this Saturday, May 9th. The Fair provides a venue for parents and parents-to-be to attend sessions on various topics, speak to health professionals and community supports. The Fair is intended to be fun, informative and child-friendly.

The Fair will be taking place at the St Peter’s Cathedral Hall which is located on the corner of Rochford Street and All Soul’s Lane in Charlottetown.

Doula Training Coming to PEI!

DONA International Doula Training course will be offered in Charlottetown, PEI on the following dates:

Friday May 22nd 6:30-9:00pm

Saturday May 23rd 8:30am-5:00pm

Sunday May 24th 8:30am–5:00pm

(Course cost $250)

* Friday 22nd from 9am - 5:00pm will be an Introduction to Childbirth Course ($100 fee) for those choosing the path of certification with DONA International.

Birth Trauma and Breastfeeding Presentation at UPEI

Cheryl Tatano Beck, a nurse researcher from the University of Connecticut, who has extensive experience in the area of postpartum depression and post traumatic stress disorder from childbirth trauma will be making a presentation to the PEI Breastfeeding Coalition, and anyone else who would like to attend, about trauma and its impact on breastfeeding. The presentation will be Wednesday, May 6th from 3:30 - 4:30 in the Classroom Centre at UPEI Room 105. Parking is available in the CARI parking lot behind the McLaughlan Arena. There is no charge to attend.

BORN chair guest on new health show ‘Au Natural’

Eastlink cable’s health show ‘Au Natural’ will be interviewing co-chair of BORN, Robyn Brehaut, on March 11th, Wednesday night at 8:30 and again on March 15th, Sunday at 7:30pm. The new show is hosted by naturopathic Dr. Kali Simmonds and her co-host Dr. Lana McMurrer. They cover a range of health topics from a naturopathic perspective. Next week’s topic is Pregnancy and Childbirth with a focus on midwifery, doula care, and BORN.
