Press Release: Community Event Listing: 5 KM Walk for Midwives of Haiti and “Doula!” the Film
BORN Co-Operative is organizing a day of activity in support of Midwifery and Doula Care Saturday May 28th . The first part of the day will begin at 1:30 p.m at City Cinema. Participants will take part in a Walk for Midwives of Haiti, a 5 KM sponsored walk to raise funds for the Ghislaine Francoeur Fund.
The Ghislaine Francoeur Fund was launched in 2008 by the Canadian Association of Midwives (CAM) in partnership with the Canadian Foundation for Women’s Health (CFWH). Both CAM and the Canadian Foundation for Women’s Health (CFWH)
Established in the name of Madame Ghislaine Francoeur, midwife and educator at the École Nationale d’Infirmieres Sages-Femmes in Port-au-Prince, Haïti, the fund’s purpose is to contribute in the reduction of maternal and infant mortality and to promote the development of midwifery care and midwifery education in Haïti.
Your generous donation will assist in capacity building projects and in projects that directly aid midwives and/or midwifery students in educational, professional and community development.
After the Walk for Midwives of Haiti, return to City Cinema where we will be showing the film Doula! at 3 p.m at City Cinema.
The film Doula! was made in the U.K where it was released last summer. The film follows three Doulas while they work with clients and attend births, the film contains footage of childbirth, which may be too graphic for some viewers. Admission to the film is by donation to BORN to offset the costs of presenting the film.
Come for a walk, or see the film or do both! To participate in our walk please e-mail info@born-pei.ca for sponsor forms and a map.http://born-pei.ca/pledge-form-for-5km-walk/ To view our map online http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4420869
